Escape Experience
The only thing harder than stopping a runaway train is creating one. When we set out to build our most ambitious escape room yet, we knew we wanted to create something truly unique—an experience that would transport players into a heart-pounding adventure they'd never forget.
The Vision
Runaway Train Transport, opening May 2018 at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, promises realistic sounds and visuals, accompanied by being on an actual repurposed (stationary) train car. We wanted to honor Chattanooga's rich railroad history while delivering the thrilling puzzle-solving adventure our guests love.
Made in Chattanooga
This project is a true celebration of Chattanooga craftsmanship. We partnered with local makers and businesses to bring our vision to life:
- Props designed and painted in-house by our creative team
- Fabrication work completed at Chatt*Lab MakerSpace
- 3D printing, electronics, and welding conducted locally
- Realistic train footage captured from the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum
- Graphics designed by Walt Schaffeld
- Vinyl wrap created by Chattanooga Printing & Design
The Build Process
Building inside a historic train car presented unique challenges. We had to work within the existing structure while creating hidden compartments, installing electronic puzzle elements, and ensuring the safety of all guests.
Capturing Authentic Footage
To make the experience as realistic as possible, we partnered with the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum to capture authentic train footage. Our team rode the rails to get the perfect shots that would make players feel like they're really aboard a runaway train.

The Result
After months of design, construction, and testing, Runaway Train opened to rave reviews. Guests love the authentic setting and the unique experience of escaping from a train car that feels like it's actually moving toward disaster.
